I am a homemaker, A stay-at-home-mother, housewife, manager of domestic affairs, whatever you may call me; I get the privilege to stay at home and raise 3 beautiful boys, it’s not easy but it’s worth it.
I say that I get the privilege to stay at home with them because I believe that there is power in the way I think about it and speak about it; “it” being my job as a mother and a wife.
Lately, I’ve been getting frustrated due to the fact that things don’t always go my way. That’s where negativity and frustration decided to creep in my life.
I’ve heard that anger comes in the absence of control. So when I feel like my house is out of control anger starts building up. When I hear the kids fighting, when I see laundry baskets not yet folded from 4 days ago, when dishes are piling up in the sink, I start feeling out of control which leads to anger. As a result, I start to complain and point out all that’s negative in everything.
But the following quote shifted my paradigm.
“Not every day is good but there is good in everyday” - Alice Morse Earle
Are you choosing to be positive? Sometimes we need to force ourselves to think or look for the positives in our day. For me, that means looking for the positive amidst my lack of control, my anger, and my frustrations.
God’s Word says that “Death and life are in the power of the tongue…” (Proverbs 18:21) I believe there is power in our thoughts as well. So although there are things that I can not change right away, I can think of the “good or positivity” in my frustrating, out of control, anger filled day.
So when I see the kids fighting--I choose to see that God blessed me with boys that are in good health with the ability to run and jump as they chase each other around the house.
When I see laundry baskets not yet folded--I choose to see that God has blessed my family with a washer to be able to wash our clothes.
When I see the dishes piling up in the kitchen sink--I see that God has blessed us with 3 meals (or more) a day and snacks in between. Also, I probably had company over for dinner so God has blessed me with friends and family.
As the quote states “there is good in everyday”, I can choose to look at the positives or complain about the negatives. I can choose to speak about the good in my day or dwell on the bad. I can let myself feel out of control causing me to get angry or I can choose to realize that God’s in control and everything will work out just the way he plans.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8 ESV
